September 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In its ongoing effort to keep Houston funky, Saint Arnold Brewing Company is sponsoring the inaugural Orange Show Foam Raiser. The event, scheduled for Sept. 6, will raise funds to support the concert series presented by the nonprofit Orange Show Center for Visionary Art.

The inaugural Orange Show Foam Raiser will be held at the Orange Show Monument in Houston’s east end — one of the most important folk art environments in the United States. Located at 2402 Munger Street in Houston, The Orange Show Monument was built single handedly by the late Jefferson Davis McKissack, a Houston postal worker.

“Saint Arnold has a long association with the Orange Show and we are proud to be the official beer for events held at the Orange Show monument,” said Brock Wagner, founder and brewer of Saint Arnold Brewing. “We are looking forward to this mash-up of eye-opening visual art, ear-opening music and full-flavored craft beer.”

News: A new glass line is introduced

September 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

J.M. Hirsch, the food editor for the Associated Press introduces us to the a new beer glass line that was introduced this week.

If you’re going to splurge for those pricey craft beers, you might as well quaff them from glasses that do them justice.

And German glassware maker Spiegelau recently launched a line of brew-specific glasses to help. The company’s Beer Classics Collection offers beautiful glasses designed to enhance three common styles of beer.

The company’s 17-ounce lager glasses, for example, start narrow and broaden to a wide mouth. Spiegelau says the shape helps present “the aromatics of this style of beer and showcases the color, clarity and carbonation of good lagers.”

The other sets include 14-ounce stemmed pilsner glasses and 17-ounce wheat beer glasses. And while the glasses feel light and delicate, all are dishwasher safe.

The Spiegelau’s Beer Classics glasses are available as sets of two at major retailers and online for $29.90
